Los Pumas' lone penalty kick keeping them afloat soon was matched by George Ford around 10 minutes into the second half, and the two squads remained tied with two tries and a penalty goal each through nearly the entire rest of full time.
With one minute to go, Guy Pepper slipped through Argentina's defense and quickly passed off to Jack van Poortvliet, who dove into the try zone to give England the win.
England led with 148 carries and nine line breaks, while Argentina made a strong defensive effort with nine turnovers won.

Argentina Vs. England Rugby Prediction
FloRugby expert Philip Bendon shares his thoughts on how Argentina and England will fare the second time around.
England will aim to complete a clean sweep of its summer test series, now facing Argentina for the second, and final, time this Saturday, live and exclusively on FloRugby for audiences in the United States.
After a dominant 35-12 victory in La Plata last weekend, Steve Borthwick’s young England side—missing 13 players currently on British & Irish Lions duty—heads into the rematch with both confidence and continuity.
The team's defensive structure, line speed and clinical finishing proved too much for an out-of-sorts Los Pumas, who will be desperate to respond on home turf.
England’s only change comes in midfield, where Harlequins center Luke Northmore earns his first international start in place of the injured Henry Slade.
Northmore lines up alongside Seb Atkinson in a new-look combination, but Borthwick has otherwise retained the XV that impressed in the series opener.
Fly-half George Ford, who won his 100th cap in La Plata, remains a pivotal figure. His game management and goal-kicking were key in England’s win, while fullback Freddie Steward and winger Tom Roebuck both crossed the line in a decisive nine-minute second-half burst last week.
Up front, co-captain Jamie George anchors a settled front row alongside Fin Baxter and Joe Heyes, while the back row of Tom Willis, Ben Curry and Sam Underhill once again will be tasked with fronting up against a powerful Argentine pack.
Argentina head coach Felipe Contepomi has rung the changes after last weekend’s defeat, making seven alterations to his starting XV.
Notably, Thomas Gallo and veteran Francisco Gomez Kodela return to bolster the front row, while Guido Petti adds experience in the second row.
Pablo Matera shifts to No. 8 in a reshuffled back row that also includes Santiago Grondona and Juan Martin Gonzalez.
Bath-bound playmaker Santiago Carreras continues at fly-half, with Simon Benitez Cruz retaining the No. 9 jersey.
The Pumas’ unpredictability remains their greatest weapon, and after an impressive 2024 Rugby Championship campaign—including wins over all three Southern Hemisphere giants—there is hope they can rediscover their form at home.
Matera, set to earn a record 111th cap, will be central to their response.
Where The Match Will Be Won
This contest promises another clash of styles: England’s structured approach versus Argentina’s expansive instincts.
The battle up front will be critical, especially in the scrums and mauls, where the hosts were second-best in the first test.
For England, another composed performance from Ford, coupled with defensive discipline and aggressive breakdown work from Tom Willis and company, could pave the way for another statement win.
On the other hand, Argentina will need sharper execution and increased tempo from the outset to unsettle the visitors.
Prediction: England wins 28-21. Expect a tighter contest in San Juan, but England’s consistency and game control should be enough to get over the line again.
Luke Northmore Makes His First Appearance For England
Center Luke Northmore will see his first cap today after teammate Henry Slade suffered a hand injury during England's first test against Argentina.
Slade has been ruled out for the remainder of the summer tour, leaving Northmore to potentially take his place for good if he shows promise in today's matchup.

Argentina Vs. England Recap From July 5
A quiet first half for both squads in their first test match finally was broken by England's George Ford as he made a drop-kick goal.
Bringing a 3-0 lead into the second half, England turned on the jets and scored three tries within 10 minutes, with two from Tom Roebuck and one from Freddie Steward.
Ford continued to drive in penalty kicks to up the score, and England soon had a 22-0 lead.
Argentina eventually got on the board 52 minutes into the game with a try by Pablo Matera and another shortly after by Pedro Rubiolo.
But two more penalty goals and another try by England shut out the possibility of a comeback for Argentina, and England came away with a 35-12 win.
