Are Māori All Blacks Contests Considered Test Matches?

Playing the Māori All Blacks is certainly a test for any country, but matches against them are not generally not considered Test matches.

While they are a representative team of New Zealand Rugby, made up of players with Māori heritage, and often play against international touring sides, their matches are typically not classified as full test matches. These games are significant fixtures and offer valuable competition, but they don't carry the same official status as matches between the main All Blacks team and other national sides.

The match against Scotland is a non-cap game.

Whangārei, New Zealand Has Strong Scottish Influence

Whangārei, New Zealand is a city with strong Scottish connections as many Scots settled in the Northern Island town after sailing out of Nova Scotia, Canada in the mid-19th century. In fact, the last major rugby match played in the city was in 2022 when the Black Ferns played Scotland in the 2021 Rugby Women;'s Cup (COVID-19 delayed the World Cup that year).

Whangārei is hosting two rugby matches today, as the Black Ferns vs. Black Ferns XV was on before the Māori All Blacks-Scotland Match.

Match officials say 10,000 fans are expected at Semenoff Stadium.
