After a shock 37-34 semifinal victory over Leinster in Dublin, Northampton managed to stun the Irish in an epic clash that avenged the Saints' loss to Leinster in last season's semifinals.
Leinster previously had reached three consecutive Champions Cup finals and were favorites each time. This time, the Saints managed to score five times against a team that had not conceded a point in the previous two matches to reach the semifinals.
Bordeaux also defied the odds by eliminating reigning Top 14 champion Stade Toulousain in the other semifinal.
Stade Toulousain beat Bordeaux in last year's Top 14 final, but Bègles secured a resounding 35-18 victory this time around, thanks to the team's resilience against a solid Toulouse defense.
Northampton is buoyed by confidence in scrumhalf Alex Mitchell and fullbacks Tommy Freeman and George Furbank, who could be key in the final clash.
But Bordeaux stood out with Six Nations Player of the Tournament Louis Bielle-Biarrey scoring twice against Stade Toulousain, taking his tally to 30 tries in 26 matches.
A historic clash awaits the two teams in Cardiff, Wales, with both sides equally hungry for the ultimate victory.
