Born May 11, 2002, in Warwickshire, England, to Scottish parents, Smith began his rugby journey at Shipston-on-Stour and later honed his skills at Warwick School.
His rapid rise through the ranks began with the Worcester Warriors, where he debuted in the Gallagher Premiership at just 18 years old.
By 2022, Smith had lifted Worcester’s first top-flight trophy, starting in the team's Premiership Rugby Cup final win over London Irish.
Following the liquidation of Worcester in October 2022, Smith signed immediately with the Northampton Saints. Since then, his impact has been undeniable.
In the 2023-2024 campaign, he was named to the Premiership Rugby Team of the Season and honored as the RPA Players' Player of the Year — both nods to his consistent excellence and influence across the league.
“Fin’s growth has been phenomenal,” said Saints Director of Rugby Phil Dowson. “His ability to stay composed under pressure and dictate play is what sets him apart.”
That calm demeanor was on full display in January 2025 when Smith kicked a match-winning penalty after the clock had gone red to edge league-leaders Bath 35-34 — a performance that earned him man-of-the-match honors.
Smith’s club performances earned him a long-awaited England senior call-up.
After debuting during the 2024 Six Nations, he received an Enhanced Elite Player Squad contract and seized the No. 10 shirt in 2025.
He was named man of the match in England’s narrow 26-25 victory over France and then kicked a 50-meter penalty to secure a one-point win over Scotland at Murrayfield, retaining the Calcutta Cup.
Eligible to play for both England and Scotland — he is the grandson of former Scotland and British & Irish Lions prop Tom Elliot — Smith ultimately committed to the Red Rose.
Now capped multiple times, his international career is in full flight, and earlier this month, he was named to the 2025 British & Irish Lions squad for the upcoming tour to Australia.
As Northampton prepares for a showdown with Bordeaux Bègles, Smith again will wear the No. 10 jersey, charged with steering the Saints in what promises to be a tense European finale.
For North American fans, the Investec Champions Cup Final will be live-streamed on FloRugby.
With a blend of tactical vision, maturity beyond his years and a calm presence under pressure, Fin Smith no longer is the promising academy product — he’s the heartbeat of a Saints side chasing continental glory.
