Returning to the Investec Champions Cup Finals for the first time in 25 years, the Northampton Saints will have 80 minutes to finish off a season of glory with a trophy to prove it.

The men in the Green, Black and Gold currently sit eighth in their Premiership Table following a winning season in 2024, but look to continue defying expectations. The Saints surprised everyone with their win over Leinster in the semi-finals, and hope to give out another upset against the Union-Bordeaux Bégles, who lead the Top 14 league.

Here’s everything to know about the Northampton Saints.

How Did The Northampton Saints Make The Finals?

In a hard-fought victory that shocked the globe, Northampton defeated the tournament favorites Leinster 37-34 to punch their ticket to the Investec Champions Cup Final. The victory was decided by one extra penalty kick by the Saints, as both teams matched with five tries and three conversions.

The Saints became the first team to put up points against Leinster, who had yet to concede through the entire knockout round.

Northampton stars Tommy Freeman, Fin Smith and Henry Pollock led the charge, with Pollock making a game-high 18 tackles. The Saints saw a stunning defensive effort that arguably controlled the matchup, as a final effort for a Leinster try was halted despite the fact that Northampton had 13 men on the field due to yellow cards within the last moments.

Looking ahead, the Saints will face off against the Union-Bordeaux Bégles to crown the national champion.

The Last Time The Saints Were In The Finals

Northampton has not seen the final matchup of the Investec Champions Cup, previously known as the Heineken Champions Cup, since 2011 and have not won it since 2000. The Saints lost to Leinster in 2011 after letting go of a 22-6 halftime lead that turned into a 33-22 win for Leinster.

In 2000, Northampton defeated Munster in a one-point 9-8 to claim its first European title.
