Springboks Prop Ntuthuko Mchunu Joins DHL Stormers For 2024 Season
Springboks prop Ntuthuko Mchunu signs with the DHL Stormers, boosting their front row for the 2024 season. This is a major move for South African rugby.

The DHL Stormers have secured the signing of Springboks loosehead prop Ntuthuko Mchunu, a move set to bolster their front row ahead of next season.
Mchunu, 25, will join the Stormers at the end of the current campaign after struggling for regular starting opportunities at the Sharks, where he played behind World Cup-winning Ox Nche.
The powerful front-rower made his Springboks debut against Wales in 2022 and has been widely regarded as one of South African rugby’s rising stars.

His arrival in Cape Town comes at a crucial time for the Stormers, who are looking to fill the void left by the retirement of captain Steven Kitshoff due to a serious neck injury.
Veteran prop Brok Harris also is set to retire, making Mchunu’s signing a significant reinforcement for the team.
Stormers Director of Rugby John Dobson is excited about the acquisition, emphasizing Mchunu’s potential.
“Ntuthuko has played at the highest level at a young age,” Dobson said. “He’s a devastating player in open play, and his athleticism makes him a special talent. Working alongside experienced props like Frans Malherbe and Neethling Fouche will only accelerate his development.”
Mchunu will compete with Ali Vermaak, Sti Sithole and Vernon Matongo for the No. 1 jersey, adding valuable depth and competition to the Stormers’ front-row stocks.
For Mchunu, the move represents a new chapter in his career, one he is eager to embrace.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to work with some of the best players and coaches in the country and take my game to the next level,” Mchunu said. “The Stormers have a special team culture, and I’m excited to contribute when I arrive at the end of the season.”
With Mchunu’s arrival, the Stormers strengthen their pack for the challenges ahead, ensuring their scrum remains a dominant force in the United Rugby Championship and beyond.
