Since joining the squad in 2018, the 32-year-old Fouché has become a cornerstone of the Stormers pack, amassing 88 caps for the team and an additional 36 for DHL Western Province.
Known for his immense power in the scrum, refined technique and surprising agility around the park, Fouché has grown into a key figure for the Cape Town-based side.
Despite interest from several overseas clubs, Fouché chose to stay in the blue and white jersey, citing his commitment to the team and his ambitions to represent his country.
“Every time I put on the DHL Stormers jersey, I get quite emotional," Fouché said. "This team means the world to me, and I honestly don’t want to play my rugby anywhere else. Driving into work and staring at Table Mountain - I don’t know where else you can get that. This squad has the potential to achieve great things; we’re only at the beginning.”
Stormers Director of Rugby John Dobson lauded Fouché’s decision to stay, praising his contributions, on and off the pitch.
“Neethling is an incredible team man and, as a tighthead prop, is coming into his prime," Dobson said. "We’re looking forward to even bigger things from him. He competes with one of the greatest tightheads, Frans Malherbe, and keeps pushing his standards. It’s no wonder other teams were interested, but his commitment to our project here speaks volumes.”
Dobson also highlighted Fouché’s leadership and role in mentoring younger players, calling him a vital figure in the squad’s future success.
Fouché’s decision to remain with the Stormers underlines his faith in the team’s trajectory. Having already rubbed shoulders with some of the game’s legends, the tighthead prop is eager to keep improving as the team chases further success.
With his extension, the Stormers retain a seasoned campaigner who not only will perform on the pitch, but will guide a handful of promising young props through the Stormers system.
