Munster Rugby Star Called Up To French National Squad

Munster Rugby center Antoine Frisch has received a call up to the French national team ahead of the final round of the 2024 Guinness Six Nations.

For the 27-year-old, the call up is not the first time he has been involved with an international camp, having previously toured with the Emerging Ireland side to South Africa in 2022.

The call up, while brilliant for Frisch, personally is a blow to Munster, which may see him depart the province, should he be capped by Les Bleus.

This would see the center fall foul of the Irish Rugby Football Union’s non-Irish qualified rule, which means all Irish internationals must play their provincial rugby for one of the four Irish provinces.

Munster already has fallen foul of this ruling in recent years with former Ireland international turned World Cup-winning Springbok second row Jean Kleyn becoming NIQ ahead of the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

Kleyn’s defection back to the country of his birth meant Ireland had to choose between him and fellow Springbok RG Snyman as their NIQ second row.

Though Ireland is well-stocked in the centers, given the age profile of the current first-choice players Bundee Aki (33), Robbie Henshaw (30), Stuart McCloskey (31) and Garry Ringrose (29), this move also could affect the national side in the coming seasons.
