One of the most anticipated games of the Rugby Championships 2023 is scheduled for July 15 as The New Zealand All Blacks host the South Africa Springboks, in what could be a 2023 Rugby World Cup preview. 

Both squads romped to wins in Round 1 with South Africa beating Australia 43-12 and New Zealand beating Argentina 41-12. Australia and Argentina play each other in Round 2. 

The All Blacks enter the game ranked No. 3 in the world, with South Africa ranked just behind them at No. 4. Of the four teams in The Rugby Championships, they are the highest ranked squads.

The match is one of the biggest rivalries in all of rugby and even plays a large role in the Matt Damon movie “Invictus” about the 1995 Rugby World Cup. The two national teams have played more than 100 times since 1921 and New Zealand is 61-38-4 in those matches. The two squads have played in every Rugby Championship since 2012. 

Last year the two squads split their Rugby Championship games, with New Zealand winning 19-17 and South Africa winning 31-29. 

New Zealand vs. SA Rugby In The Rugby World Cup History

The squads last played in the Rugby World Cup in the last World Cup in 2019. The All Blacks wons 23-13 in Pool B play. 

This year, the squads aren’t in the same pool, with South Africa in Pool B and New Zealand in Pool A. 

The 2023 Rugby World Cup begins on Sept. 8 in France.
