Arkansas State Coach Steps Down, Search For Replacement Steps Up
Arkansas State rugby head coach Shaun Potgeiter is stepping down to concentrate on his graduate degree pursuit.
Arkansas State University head coach Shaun Potgeiter is stepping down, and the program is launching a search for his replacement.
Potgeiter, who was an All-American player for Arkansas State before taking the reins as coach, is stepping down to continue his pursuit of a graduate degree. Attaining that degree and coaching a top DIA college rugby program are fairly incompatible when it comes to the time commitment, and Potgeiter informed ASU Director of Rugby Matt Huckaby that he won't be able to coach anymore.
The Red Wolves are launching an immediate search for a new head coach.

Potgeiter took over the Arkansas State job just over two years ago, and led the team to an appearance in the final of the 2017 Varsity Cup. The Red Wolves were 9-2-1 this past season, with wins over the Little Rock men's club, Arkansas, LSU, Indiana, Davenport, Clemson, Oklahoma, Utah Valley, and Navy. ASU tied Lindenwood and lost to Life (D1A runner-up) and Cal in the Varsity Cup final.
In sevens, Arkansas State was invited to the Collegiate Rugby Championship in Chester, PA, and went 2-1-1, with its only loss being in the Cup quarterfinal.
