There's not much time for the High School All-Americans to turn around for game two of their trip to Canada, but they made the most of Friday and will try to make it a two-game sweep over the Ontario U19s on Saturday.

For center Ian Kilcullen, who scored a try and was part of a fairly solid defensive effort in the HSAA's 26-5 win on Thursday, it was about being focused.

"I felt we prepared really well for the game," said the Gonzaga HS midfielder. "We knew Ontario was bringing a strong side for the match and we took our seven practices very seriously to get down the new systems and build team chemistry."

It took a little bit of time for the HSAA team to really start firing, and that might be attributed to the weather. It rained hard up until game time and was still raining slightly during the game.

Kilcullen said the team just needed time to shake off the nerves. Wing Jack Bradfield (St. Edward, Ohio) said also that the team needed some time for find its groove.

"We pieced it together really nicely after their score," said Bradfield. "They were tough around the breakdown specifically and once we started running strong support lines and really hitting the rucks with a punch, we had much better possession in the second and got the scores we expected."

The HSAA team also held Ontario to just the one try.

"Defensively, I think we put enough pressure on them with our line speed to force mistakes from their end," Bradfield said.

"Other than a few line breaks that led to Ontario's try, I thought we played great team defense," Kilcullen added. "As the game went on, we really felt like a team and saw it the way we were playing. Our forwards ran hard and made it easy for our backs to finish. We slowed down a little in the second half, but hopefully in our second game Saturday we keep the momentum and score a couple more times."

For Saturday, they need more of the same, and, added Bradfield, some better support on second phase. In addition, "we were told to clean up our attack and get the ball out of our own end. We had played too much in our own end in the first half."
