USA Rugby Opens Search To Find New Women's 15s Head Coach

USA Rugby is looking for a new women's 15s head coach.

It's been almost four months since Pete Steinberg stepped down following the 2017 Women's Rugby World Cup, and now the national governing body is looking for his replacement.

This is on the heels of Emilie Bydwell being named USA Rugby's general manager for women's high performance.

Bydwell oversaw a post-World Cup audit and has been working on a long-term plan.

"I know it feels a little bit like in the women's community that we've kind of halted, but really for us we want to use this moment in time and take a second, learn from where we are, and make a plan moving forward," Bydwell told FloRugby.

USA head coach candidates will have until Wednesday, Feb. 14, to submit their application materials through usarugby.org/careers.

"We are excited to begin the process of selecting a women's national team head coach that will build on the momentum of the last cycle," Bydwell said. "As we look towards the future, we want to build out a 10-year plan bringing us through the next two 15s World Cups, three Sevens World Cups, and three Olympics."

The position will be responsible for developing systems to advance the women's program at an elite level, continuing its growth from a fourth-place finish at the 2017 Women's Rugby World Cup. The head coach of the women's national team will provide support to both the Women's Eagles Sevens and age-grade coaching staffs in order to achieve this objective across all levels of the sport.

"Early in the quad, our focus will be around building a team profile, playing style and performance behaviors for the 2021 World Cup team," Bydwell said. "We will work to identify which players will continue and which young players we will invest in immediately.

"As we solidify our 2018 Senior Test and Pathway schedule, we plan to have our senior head coach heavily involved in age-grade assemblies in order to best accelerate our young Eagles, developing standards of performance across our entire program."
