Davenport put on a solid showing in defeating a tough D1AA opponent in Lindenwood-Belleville at home in Caledonia, MI, on Saturday.

The score is listed by some as 44-26 and some as 44-31. We're going with 44-26 as that was what Lindenwood-Belleville officially reported and what Davenport coach Harry King confirmed, as well.

The Panthers showed some snappy backline play and put the Lynx under all sorts of pressure, and flyhalf Noah Zomberg was effective with his kicking game and finding running space for his backs. The Lynx were coming off a midweek victory over the University of Notre Dame. Their forwards battled hard and caused some problems for Davenport, but the Panthers were able to disrupt the scrumhalf-flyhalf connection for Lindenwood-Belleville.

Davenport moved flanker Aaron Cummings to scrumhalf, and he had a huge game to spark Davenport to a 34-0 halftime lead.

"His passing is getting better and better," King said.

Freshman fullback Brady Erlich inserted nicely in the backline, while senior flanker Thomas Cheslek was a massive presence on defense.

"We feel good about it," King said. "Our backline is young but strong, and Noah really did a good job leading them. We're coming together."
