D1A Playoff Favorites Cruise Into Semifinals

The men's D1A rugby playoff semifinals are set after four teams advanced from this past weekend's matchups with convincing wins.

Saturday's quarterfinals featured two teams capturing victories on the road. No. 14 Arizona traveled to No. 16 Baylor and ousted the host Bears 48-5. Meanwhile, third-ranked BYU compiled an eight-try effort to take down No. 7 Indiana 44-17 in Bloomington, IN.

Second-ranked Life University earned its place in the semifinals after beating Lindenwood 37-20, fueled by a 26-point first half at home. St. Mary's also hosted its quarterfinal matchup, and the No. 1 Gaels left little doubt as the tournament favorites behind a dominating 72-5 win over San Diego State.

The semifinals get underway on Saturday, April 29, with Arizona traveling to St. Mary's in Moraga, CA, and BYU hitting the road to take on Life in Marietta, GA.

St. Mary's and Life have met in the finals in each of the past four years and have won two national titles apiece during that span. Is this the year that a new face enters the D1A Finals picture?
